OCTOBER 1, 2013

This blog post will be brief, because we are busy, busy, busy! Going into rehearsals for VENUS IN FUR this week and we are more than ready to get underway.

The New York Times called this play “good, kinky fun.”  It’s all that, and more. Hilarious. Thought provoking. And very, very sexy. You’ll laugh, you’ll gasp, you’ll wanna smoke a cigarette and cuddle afterwards!

VENUS IN FUR by David Ives opens with a cynical playwright lamenting the lack of talent in the actresses he has auditioned for his new play based on a nineteenth century erotic novel.  When ditzy actress Vanda arrives two hours late, sparks and punch lines fly. But underneath the humor, something wicked and dangerous bubbles to surface, building to a punch-in-the-gut ending you’ll never see coming.

We’re fortunate to have Carolyn Corley and J.D. Sizemore on board to bring these fabulous characters to life.  We’ve assembled a great staff as well – Anjana Dixon is our Assistant Director, Terry Copleand Pfeiffer will Stage Manage and our Designers are Vicki Sparks (set/props) Susan Bourdeau (costumes) and Adam Baranowski (lights.)

Plus, this is our first chance to produce a show in a space currently being renovated by Hatcher Hill at 525 N. Gay Street.  The entire block is being given a facelift by the city, with new lighting, curb cuts and trees to match the rest of Gay Street.

We hope you’ll come see this wonderful show and check out our plans for the space.  It would be such a cool addition to Knoxville’s theatre scene.

VENUS IN FUR will open with a ‘pay-what-you-want’ preview on October 30, a $20 preview on Halloween ($15 if you come in costume!) and a Gala opening on Friday, November 1st. Other performances are  November 2 and 3, November 7 -10 and 14 – 17. Evening shows are at 7:30 PM, Sunday matinee at 2:00, all $25.

Break out the leather boots and come see us!

The play sounds like a lot of fun, and so does the venue. I hope the buzz in deafening.
